Massive 2-1\/2 inch diameter center hubs are 1-1\/2 inch deep for totally stable mounting on your lathe spindle.  Four thick ribs butress the full length of the hub and tie it to the plate's rigid 1 inch deep outer rim (on 6 inch and larger plates).
